Thanksgiving in New York City

Since we weren't able to spend Thanksgiving with our families in Wisconsin this year (and usually it's our absolute favorite gathering of all year), we decided to spend it Mar and Matt style in New York City. We woke up incredibly early, grabbed some bagels and coffee, and headed down to see the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Waking up early on our day off wasn't the sweetest sounding thing, but actually seeing the parade in person was fairly fun. Once we got down there and elbowed our way to an edge of Sixth Ave near 57th, we waited a good hour or so before we saw any parade activity. The crowds were great; everyone was in a jolly, festive mood. Lots of children and families everywhere. And lots of cheers and smiles. It was a good morning! Of course afterwards, we were busy in the kitchen trying to make our most favorite Thanksgiving dishes. It made me very thankful for my sisters and mom who seem to do it all so effortlessly.

The Macy's stars marked the start of the parade.

So many excited children.

Kermit takes Manhattan.

Our favorite appearance.

Still chasing the football.

Precise representation of all police officers in NYC.

Yes, that's Big Bird!

Uncle Sam was totally deflating all over Sixth Avenue.

At home in New York.

Leonardo giving a what's up to the crowd.

Also a Matt and Mar favorite. Papa Smurf.

Wacky wild Kool-Aid style.

Oh yeah!
